![]() How much preload if any should there be between the rocker and legs? Should there be no tension on the rocker hardware at all and I need more tension on the springs? How can I secure the legs to the rockers with no torque on the nuts that’s been causing it to bind? This is my first springer front end and some insight would be much appreciated. When I loosen them slightly it’s super springy and I can bounce the front wheel off the ground with a little effort. ![]() When I torque the legs to the rockers to what I think will be safe enough, the rockers bind and it barely moves at all. The side that bolts to the legs didn’t have any washers between the bolts or nuts that connects the rockers to the legs. One side bolts to the rockers and had a thin washer on each side where it connects. The rocker bolts are shouldered and threaded on both sides and made out of hex stock so it’s like there’s a bolt in the middle. When I took it apart to service it with new bushings and fresh grease, I noticed one of the rocker bolts was bent. Recently acquired a Sportster with what my research has shown has a Smith Brothers and Fetrow twisted springer on it. ![]()
